The cove is the massive singing supporters group that stand at one end of the ground. Its good fun, and a great atmosphere.

Yeah some of those Asian teams are up to the standard of English teams i reckon, they get full houses to every game and they sign their hearts out. They also have many massive flags!

from Wiki:
In 2007 the team attracted an average gate of over 46000 (Urawa Red Diamonds [Japan])
That is higher than most english clubs is it not?
|
|
|
Post by nickmclachlan on May 7, 2008 21:08:25 GMT 10
higher than most
but chelsea, arsenal etc. draw 60,000
Urawa are the best team aren't they?
|
|
|
Post by TC Ink on May 7, 2008 21:14:38 GMT 10
higher than most but chelsea, arsenal etc. draw 60,000 WRONG! Chelsea only get around the low 40 000s less than 46 000 average. The only 3 teams that beat Urawa are Man U, Arsenal and Newcastle. Urawa are the best team aren't they? Not quite, their only J-League title was in 2006, although they were champions of Asia in 07.

Post by TC Ink on May 7, 2008 21:19:45 GMT 10
yeh but you can't deny it's more fanatic in England This is what we are responding to, and the fact is that for clubs like Urawa it is the fans are the same if not more passionate for the club than what we see with English teams.

but england all together as a whole, the way they are patriotic for their teams, through thick and thin, no matter how crap they are, has to be admirable

Tom - I don't think you'll find that average attendance is a precursor for fanaticism. I can assure you that more EPL games are sold out that Japanese league games, and the fact that they do not have bigger stadiums does not reflect the passion of the fans.
It has also been proven in studies (Sorry I can't source this) that in Asian leagues, fans are much more likely to be 'one time' fans rather than repeat antendees, and they go for the day, rather than in the European leagues, where clubs have supportors who go back week after week, and are usually season ticket holders.
Basically, although I agree that Asian fans are very fanatical, English ones take the cake.
