A whole section dedicated to one particular league of a mediocre sport but nothing for the beautiful world game! I consider this blasphemy of the highest degree.
So here is the official football thread!
Discuss who you're playing for, the EPL, the EPL's best team, the A-League, shoddy referees, the champions league, who you love, who you hate etc.
Beginning with the champions league! Oh mighty Liverpool once again! Moscow in 08!! Here we go!!
A laws of the game question for Tom + Matt + David, three obvious football enthusiasts-
What is the decision of the referee if a player taking a penalty kick backheels it to a team mate who scores? gogogogo! (Ah the forum God is modifying my posts!)

To answer this question im gonna quote a few things i was reading previously from www.carosi.freeserve.co.uk/corshamreferee/penalty.htm
The main differences between a penalty kick and a direct free kick are as follows: (b) The ball must be touched and moved forward before it is deemed to be in play.
(h) The person taking the penalty kick must be identified to the Referee and to the goalkeeper.
From what i can see back heeling the balls violates both these sections. as to what would happen i assume either the penalty kick has to be retaken or a free kick is given to the opposition and a card shown to the offending player........ BUT football is a funny game and it wouldn't suprise me if a goal was given but from what i can see that would break several rules in taking a penaly kick.

He has to make the initial contact. That means that the penalty taker cant fake the kick and someone else run in from behind and take it, fooling the keeper.

Well he didnt say which way the back heal goes, he mite spin around and backheal it forward but to the side of the box where a team mate latches onto it and score

Matt is correct. The ball cannot be played backwards from a penalty kick The penalty kick would be retaken If the taker commits the same offense again, a caution will be shown for persisently infringing the laws of the game, and an indirect free kick will be given to the defending team.
As Tom said, Arsenal attempted to do a similar trick- However the Arsenal player slightly pushed the ball forward, and the second Arsenal player missed the ball. It was hilarious. However the ball went forward, ergo why it was allowed.
Next question - A substitute warming up behind the goal sees that a attacker has beaten the goalkeeper, as the attacker passes the ball into the goal, the substitute runs onto the field and commits a handball to prevent the ball entering the goal.
What is the referees action?

YEW!!!!! o yea:) ummm man thats a hard one.... i no that if a sub enters the field of play without permission the referee shall stop play not straight away though if the sub does not interfere with play or if the advantage can be applied but clearly this isnt im not sure id have to give that one some more thought

im gonna say goal is not awarded, game is restarted with a drop ball and the offender is ejected from the game

but where would the drop ball take place hmmmmm gay ive got no idea how the game would be restarted but the goal would not stand and the sub would be red carded cause its a professional foul
